Text 6 Aug 3 notes Drugs, Helicopters, Parades

I went to the border of Iran and Pakistan in 2009, to the city of Zahedan in the Sistan-Balouchistan province. It is one of the most volatile provinces in Iran and one of the poorest; electricity and running water are a luxury. It is also a major hub for drug trafficking, mainly opium and heroin. The few days I was there, I was able to go on drug busts with the police, take a helicopter ride with the Air Force and witness a “show of strength” military parade. Here are some pictures (shot on a little point and shoot camera)

Police lined up and ready to go on a bust.

Each bag is about 50 kilos of opium.
